This is a blind date with a painting. I was waiting for the shops to open to get a new canvas and I painted something over an old, failed one. I let it lead me.

Painting over another painting can be fun.

This is what came out of my blind date with this painting. I call it "Disolving Mother" for two reasons. One is because it seemed to me as if the figure were disolving into the blue side of the painting. The other has to do with the personal story of the model.

With this painting I am taking a turn back to a more painterly way of doing things which I had left behind for quite some time. I realised I had been trapped into a form of "realistic" representation that left little space for real expression. I am making slow steps towards paint and pure form again. It is not an easy thing and I may show you some horrible stuff on my way there.

I see her as comfortably dissociated. She's almost grounded (look at her feet and their distance from eachother) but it is as though she is lingering between two expectant moments versus, perhaps, where she'd prefer to be. I like this one very much.
