I have worked from the same photo for a few years now. Despite my various attempts to find new, suitable faces, I keep returning to the photo of Anne.

Fot this project, I have manipulated her photo on Photoshop. I will paint the manipulated faces in oil, playing about with reality and illusion.

Here is another photo of Anne manipulated on Photoshop. Although it is based on Anne's photograph, it is not her portrait. I am going to paint portraits of people who never existed.

I think these two faces might be finished now, after seven layers of paint. The studio is bathing in light in the morning, and I love working on early Saturday mornings.

These four may be finished now. I need to wait a couple of days and look at them with fresh eyes, just to see if they need anything else. I have painted different colours around the faces, planning out the colour of the body.

It is not fashionable to care about anyone these days.

Cream is too clean.

I like green. It brings out the reds nicely.

I'm looking forward to cutting the faces off the background today. The wood workshop is open, so I can use a bandsaw instead of my handheld jigsaw, which always makes a mess.

I cannot help smudging wet paint with my fingers. After doing this for years, I'm dreading my body is full of lead. It's awkward to paint with gloves, and I doubt protective lotions help. I am thinking of switching to drawing altogether.

One of the faces got a body this week. It became a stick horse! I changed my mind; not all of the characters will look the same after all.

Nothing beats creative freedom!
