Donna Han works in fabric, paint, and found materials. Her art is one of alchemy, in which ephemeral flotsam adopts the salve-like function of a tender poultice. "Soft" is a composite structure, emblematic of Han's knack for fusing elements of disparate origin, in order to harmonize threads of personal history. The letters in this work were culled from sources which on their own signify dislocation or rootless adventure. When combined, those same components can shed some of their loaded memories and adopt a more playful dynamic. -Peter Dedman
