Dear Hilary,
I just visited your site and stayed immersed there for quite a while watching your paintings and reading what you had to say.I wanted to tell you that what, in my opinion, makes one an artist, is his/her ability to create A World. A coherent world of his/her own where the immages look a certain way and the ideas sound a certain way too. I am really looking forward to see your work live in Trapani.
I was wondering what you think of Francesco's Clemente work.

she didn't kill herself, she just didn't try to save herself... she fell from a branch into the water and she didn't do anything about it... she didn't take her life, she just let life take her...

Since my mother passed away, her presence has somehow remained there in my parent's home. It's as if she just stepped out a moment.

thank you Kazuaki... the black is where he lives, the red is the pain i live in... sometimes i think i could go there... but my paintings won't let me go...

確かに絵の背景に何か悲しげなものが感じられました。それはきっと愛する人が遠くに行ってしまったことによるものなのでしょう。

Hilary... don't tell me you read japanese?
Do you know the work of viennese artists Egon Schiele or Gustav Klimt? They used the combination of line and decorative colour in an interesting way. Rich fin-de-siecle type decadence.

Well.. there's not much we can do about Schiele, but why not find out the email of Kerr and invite him to show some of his stuff here, if you like his work so much?
(If I had the opportunity, I'll love to get Paddy Graham to post some work - he, and another great - Charlie Cullen were the two big painters when I was in Dublin - are they still around?)

good v evil
based on a Persian story about the origin of the world and the human race, this painting shows good and evil each fighting to be born first...

Believe, room to grow
Everything needs room to grow, nothing can develop in the dark. If you have something inside you that is beautiful, it is important to let it have the space and nourishment it needs to grow. If you hide it and keep it for yourself, it will smother. This painting came when someone encouraged me to fight for the things I wanted in life, to fearlessly present my work to the world and let it grow in the hearts of other people. The world feels like a better place when you follow your heart and your dreams.
The Photographer
Recently I went to a gig that was really amazingly good and I was dancing and singing and really enjoying it. At that gig I noticed a girl who was standing in front of the stage taking photographs, during the whole entire gig she never looked at the band once! She just took photos of them and looked at the photos on the screen of her camera. It was like she had captured the band in her camera, a miniature version, that was even better than the real thing. It made me think about how the distances between people has become greater with all the "communication technology". It is so easy to send a text message or an email, that people don`t see each other as much as they used to. You send a couple of text messages back and forth and you feel like you have been talking to someone, but it is a much much lower level of communication. I think people rely too much on technology to save their memories also, that girl thought it was more important to get photographs of the band than to see the actual gig, I cried when I realised that my laptop ate half of my photographs from Paris, we all do it... It`s almost as if people wont believe your stories unless you have photos to back it up. Or that the experience wasn`t as good because you don`t have the photos to remember it by. Well that day in Paris, my love and I watched street theater beside some giant flower pots with no flowers in them, and we saw the finish line of a roller skate marathon, and there was a girl selling her drawings on the ground, and then the air changed really suddenly and everyone started running for cover, and the street theater disappeared and in a split second the sky opened and the coloured tubes of the Centre Pompidou turned into a refugee center for people fleeing the rain, and the street became a river and there we all were, people who never met huddled together in awe of the spectacular weather... I don`t have those photographs, but I remember the day. Actually, I think I remember it better BECAUSE I know that I lost the photographs. Other days you just think, "If I want to remember that I`ll just look at the photographs". It`s strange. It`s strange and I`m waffling... Well this painting made me think about a lot of things, some of those things are described here... but mostly it was about a girl who probably has really good photos, but no actual memory of the gig because she didn`t look at it. I used to do that a lot, totally concentrate on getting the perfect photograph of a gig, and then that was all I had... But I`ve changed, now I get a couple of average photos and a lot of good memories
Proof
How do you prove that love exists? Is there a way to prove that two people love each other? Do love letters and cosy photographs prove anything? Or do you need more drastic exclamation?
Holding on
Different people in your life can have different effects on you... Some people can make you tired by just talking to them... Some people can make you want to dance and jump around just because of the energy they have This painting is about the support and strength that you can get from being involved in a balanced relationship with someone... It doesn`t have to be that one person in the relationship is stronger than the other, both people become stronger from the presence and love of the other. Both of the people in the relationship can achieve their dreams and goals, because they feel strong and beautiful in the eyes of the other person... When two people find each other and they fit together, it is a good thing for both of their lives, they can follow the dreams in their hearts with the power of two hearts. It is about holding on to what is right, even though there are difficult days and sometimes sadness, it is about fighting for the love in your heart and you will be rewarded for it with the happiness that two people can ignite in each other.
Is it sunny where you are?
