Having to ship my paintings lures motherly feelings out of me. Oh my dear kids, how to protect you properly? Only the best will be good enough. Well, in this case I have to alter my profession and play the joiner for a while. And ... buy the right material.

Beginning with the frame, well glued and screwed together. But working on the cold concrete floor is very strenuous and not at all good for my knees but ... it’s the only plain surface big enough for doing it.

Well, adding the covet to the glue covered frame is very tricky. But miraculously I managed to do it perfectly (or was that skill?).

Now the bottom is tacked onto the glued frame. This gives stability to the whole thing. And for the other sides uses screws easily to tell from the top.

One can ponder on an issue all day long but making a test is always more convincing. So lets put all inside what needs to be shipped. All the gaps later will be filled with styrofoam.

Well, a joiner usually has to work more precise than a painter. But today with all this electric tools it’s manageable even for a painter with a wild brush.

Here we have the handles. Two of them for each crate. So these crates will be very good to handle wouldn’t they?

The upper side is screwed for it has to be removable. I hope that in Trapany Antonio has an electric screwdriver or as they say there cacciavite elettrico for it’s exactly 24 screws to be removed before you can get the paintings out of their box.

Even when a painting alone doesn’t weight so much, a bunch of them surrounded by a crate have easily up to 50 kilos. And a crate in the dimensions of 190 x 160 x 15 cm isn’t as easily to handle as a handbag. So every crate gets two wheels. Okay, okay, I can hear you say „Oh my god, typically German“.

Apropos typically ... after a hard days work there should be something refreshing ... and that should be typically Italian. So here we have some prosecco left over from Open Studio.

Okay, here we have two out of three. Now it comes to packing. But this I can do only after I have bought the styrofoam on Monday. So better go home now and contemplate on what to answer Karen and Maria for they wrote that long long long comments. Well I really hope that someday in the future I can continue painting.

The crate is one thing and it’s interior another. For the „kids“ need a cosy coach for travelling and warm underpants. That’s why everything gets upholstered with styropor. And isn’t it nice that my friend the architect has such a practical styropor-saw? This he lent to me over the weekend.

The upholstery for the frame gets glued to it. The rest of the used styropor is left loose for one has to take it out with the paintings. I use joiner’s glue for styropor doesn’t like solvents.

Well, the lady with the red fingers is the first one to enter the coach. The painting fits exactly and that is what it shall. There will be several layers in this crate so the first layer lays with ist back to the outside.

Next one. Looks as if she’s struggeling like real kids that don’t want to go to bed this early.

Here I cut some bubblewrap as a blanket or comforter for the kids or actually for to separate the surfaces of the paintings from each other. For the second layer lays face to face on the first one.

Now the two painting kids get their covering. I hope the bubblewrap will make it to Trapani for kids love to play with it and press the bubbles with their finger until they burst with that nice little pop.

The distance to the frame is filled with styropor so nothing does slip or move or chafe at something. And the weight of the styropor is absolute negligible as you know.

So now everything is in the box (Hullo Roxy .-) Looks a little bit like the snow we are missing this year. Okay, that’s it for today. I don’t feel very well. Guess I’ll have some little infect or so. I feel very tired so I better go home.
